Thank you very much for your kind welcome!

Well, there it is!

This is the work of Dym2005, but now with Japanese audio and english subs available, I haven't modified anything else.
You have just to select audio "JP" and subtitles "Eng for JP" with your video player.
Since I did this very quickly, please let me know if there are any errors with the subs or audio.

I think it's really nice to be able to enjoy the Japanese version with such a beautiful video quality, all thanks to dym2005!

So enjoy!

Well, I would say something like "strong first post", but that seems a bit weak in this case!

Thanks very much for this,
Megaupload let me download that very swiftly last night and the subs work great in media player classic.

I got quite a way into episode 1 just now before my daughter decided that we had to watch Stingray instead.

I will get this put up on the site's main page as soon as I can ...

Best Wishes and Thanks again!

First of all, let me wish you a Happy New Year! :)

I'm glad you like it !

It is thanks to you that I discovered this Dym2005 version, so I am happy to be able to share this modest upgrade on this forum.

Funny thing: I never realized, before doing this work, that episode 8 (and 12) had been censored in Star Fleet compared to the original and French version.
I imagine the broadcasters must have thought that the young British public would not have been able to bear these scenes of Mon-Mon slaughter.

Well, I like to think of myself as a facilitator.

Oh yes, I was surprised to learn that a little while ago from Ben's substack:
https://starfleetxbomber.substack.com/p ... s-part-one

I had assumed that the French and UK versions were the same other than the dubbing, music and credits.

The mon-mons were annoying and standing in the way of progress, but I'm sure they could've found a way to lure them away if they'd engaged their brains.

Star Fleet is a pretty tough show when it comes to that and the fate of Captain Carter, Dr Benn, Makara, Orion: even Kirara, Halley and Lamia, when you think about the ending.
But then again, life can be that way.

If I get time I might do an upscaled version of X-Bomber with Japanese audio and English subs, but it certainly won't be for a while.
I'm interested! I've been looking for English subtitles for the original Japanese series, but everything I could find seems no longer available.

Hi!
I'm sorry about the slow reply. How are things?
I checked the link above for the 720p upscales with English + Japanese audio plus subs worked fine for me just now:
https://mega.nz/folder/Xm4m1QyR#F6Vb4LCfYkOHQW_aIekCrA

I checked the files a good while ago and they worked just the way they were advertised.

Are you looking for the subtitle as separate SRT files?

You could try popping Spoutnik a private message and see what comes back. :)

Hello, sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I used the upscaled mkv files to extract the srt using ffmpeg

Code: Select all

for /R %i in (*) do ffmpeg -i "%~fi" -map 0:3 "%~fi.srt"
this works for all files except episode 12 where I had to use

Code: Select all

-map 0:4
Then I had to sync the subtitles with the original Japanese episodes (that I don't remember the source any more).

I found this great tool for syncing subtitles https://github.com/smacke/ffsubsync but some of the episodes I was having to tinker a bit.

In the end, I did it with another tool mentioned on ffsubsync GitHub page, https://github.com/kaegi/alass.

Code: Select all

alass.bat "X-Bomber - S01E01.mkv" "Star Fleet Episode 01_1.25x_984x720_amqs-1 (EN+JP+sub).mkv.srt" "X-Bomber - S01E01.srt"
This worked for all episodes except 12, 23 and 24 where I had to add a different parameter

Code: Select all

alass.bat "X-Bomber - S01E12.mkv" "Star Fleet Episode 12_1.25x_984x720_amqs-1 (EN+JP+sub).mkv.srt" "X-Bomber - S01E12.srt" --no-split
And now I have those original Japanese episodes mkv files with subtitles, yay! :D

Hi Jetc!
I saw your message last night but I was having to have a think about the answer ... :D

I'm glad to see that you found the way to a great solution on that.

I have some information about the available upscaled releases here:
https://www.xbomber.co.uk/?dir=Star%20F ... %20Upscale

I can get a link put on there if you plan on uploading the results of your work.
