My hunch was right. The individual volumes have much better picture quality than the 3-disc series boxset.
The individual DVDs are much cleaner and less muddy:

I ordered vols 2, 5, 6 and 8, which are the ones I could find to start completing the set.

I haven't forgotten about this little project.

The four volumes that I ordered from Japan are taking quite a while to arrive.
I have to wait until Thursday before I can ask the seller to try and track down where they've ended up.

So the box of DVDs was just taking its time to get here.
I was a bit worried that they'd got lost in the mail.

These are the ones that I have. In brackets, is what I need to find time to do with them.

Vol.1 - OK
Vol.2 - OK
Vol.3 - OK
Vol.4 - ordered ...
Vol.5 - OK
Vol.6 - OK
Vol.7 - OK
Vol.8 - OK
Vol.9 - OK

I should accumulate the full set of discs eventually :)

The screenshots that the Xilisoft software is generating from these individual firestorm DVDs are a bit strange.
The DVD picture, when played back is nice and smooth and is noticeably better than the 3x DVD boxset for certain.

But the screenshots generated have a slightly jagged and pixelated quality to them.
It's as though Xilisoft has got confused about the DVD picture dimensions and had to do some resizing.
I say that because it looks like the sort of thing you get when you do a resize in Photoshop and just use nearest-neighbour resampling.

I've never seen the software do that before.
I asked Xilisoft about it and they seem quite keen on fixing it.

Screenshots from vols 3, 7 and 9 are uploaded, as well as scans of the covers and linings.
I see that volume 4 is available thru amazon Japan.
I'm going to give it a few weeks and see if I get get vol 4 the same way that I got the others.

I told myself that I would give it until New Year and see if Firestorm Vol 4 appeared on eBay. Sadly, it never did, so I ordered over Amazon marketplace, which was not my first choice.

I'll let you know when it gets here and I can finish my little project off.

Took a few weeks to arrive but vol.4 is here!
I will scan and capture over the weekend.
The sleeve is in brilliant condition - no fading, unlike some of the others that I got.

Menu screenshot and cover scans coming soon ...
