« Star Fleet / DVD Release - Japan 2013

The remastered DVDs released in Japan in 2013 included a fantastic full-colour booklet, containing a wealth of background imagery relating to the show.

The DVD format is NTSC with region 2 encoding and a resolution of 720x540.
The opening credits of the episodes appear to have been digitally remastered while the episodes themselves have undergone grain removal, making the picture smoother but removing a good deal of fine detail in some shots.
Also, the remaster footage is slightly zoomed and cropped.
Overall, the picture quality is different to the original 2002 Japanese release but represents no great improvement.

The remastered set contains a number of interesting special features including creditless opening and closing sequences, adverts for toys and merchandise that were televised alongside the series. 
The most interesting extra feature, however, is the X-Bomber Preview show, which is a short pilot episode that was presumably used to market the series and contains some interesting differences to the main episodes.

The picture quality of the preview show is much better than that of the episodes.
