« Comics - Japan / Televi-Kun - 1981-01Colour Feature This issue has some good, big photos of Dai-X, plus the Alliance battlecruiser, that show how neat and clean the modelwork was on the show, and how well the panel markings were done. There is also a double-page spread illustration of Dai-X fighting on an ice planet, shooting down Alliance astrofighters and being shot at by an interesting missile emplacement, that we don't get to see in the show. I'm quite sure that I've not seen this image anywhere before. Manga In this issue, X-Bomber encounters a field of asteroids that chase the ship and home in on it; similar to the behaviour of the death planetoid in episode 19. Makara and her battlecruiser appear as X-Bomber is surrounded by these asteroids. The Skull arrives to help but comes under fire from the battlecruiser. X-Bomber launches the Dai-X fighters, which discover that the source of these asteroids is a large, dog-like space creature. The asteroids act as guided missiles that are launched from the openings on the creature's back. The Dai-X tries to attack the creature from behind but is thrown clear by the creature's firepower at short range. Dai-X responds by firing x-tracer at the creature, vapourising its outer shell, but leaving the creature otherwise operational. Dai-X destroys the enemy by charging at it, punching it in the mouth and firing the dual laser cannon at the same time. Scanning Remarks This copy was fine but not in quite such ideal shape as some of the others. The pages were a bit dog-eared towards the back. Anyway, the colour features were in good condition. Strangely, photomerge had real trouble scanning the second double-page spread. I used auto-contrast and tone on the manga pages, which were printed on the pinkish, thin paper found right towards the back of these books. The auto-tone makes it look whiter than it is. I ommitted auto-contrast this time because it seemed to make the ink unrealistically pale. Images
