« Other / TV Shows - Slugterra This page is a little working area, where I'm storing some info about a current little project. When I get a collecting bug, I really do "gotta catch 'em all" and Slugterra has taken us a bit by storm in this house since we started watching it a few months ago. My daughter loves these little guys: especially Burpy (or "Burky" as ours is called). I'm not certain that I'll be able to find all of these, but I'll see what we can do. Quite a lot of the later ones seem to be pretty-much unfindable, 13 years down the line from the series originally airing. These little figures were produced between 2012 and 2016. The later waves seem to have been produced in fairly small numbers. I think there's a lot more competition around children's entertainment products now, but they seem to have done quite well and been sold in a lot of countries. Double PacksEach wave had 5 packs, with later waves re-packaging more-and-more of the earlier waves' slugs and re-releasing them in different variants and colours ... Wave 1 is an exciting one where it provides most of the really big-hitters in the first three packs. The remaining two are a bit less exciting. Wave 2 carries over 5 slugs from wave 1: Spinner and Bludgeon; and Doc and Stinky's packs are carried over directly into wave 2 and Burpy is repackaged with Bugsy, rather than Joules (which is a shame because I like Joules). Wave 3 is a complete refresh with nothing being carried over from waves 1 or 2. There are some good, new additions, but some of these packs are expensive to obtain. Burpy is re-done with a different expression. Wave 4 was released after the first short movie: Ghoul from Beyond that follows the main series, and before Return of the Elementals, and only re-uses the Hop Jack and Bluster pack from wave 3. Bludgeon is re-released with a different expression and Burpy is revised again: this time, looking as he does later in the series: after he first uses megamorph. Wave 5 has one completely new pack, containing Lariat and Fandango. Makobreaker and Aquabeek (both underwater slugs) appear with repeats from waves 2 and 3. Meanwhile Slyren and Hexlet are introduced with translucent versions of Chiller and Suds that are intended to be used with the illuminating hero glove. Wave 6 onward seem to have been released in smaller numbers because examples are very hard to find. I only spotted this wave when I spotted a pack with a forgesmelter and the translucent thugglet. As you see, this is mostly re-releases: some in new colours, with Grenuke being the only real new addition. Wave 7 had significantly different packaging, which the toy line seemed to adopt around the time when Journey to the Eastern Caverns was released on TV, and carries over quite a lot of figures from previous waves: often in one solid colour. It also has translucent versions of Fire Elemental, Chiller and Joules but yields three new additions: Ping, Negashade and Freightgeist. Examples of wave 7 are very hard to find. I suspect that, as the waves went on, production quantities decreased, as the novelty factor of the show began to die down. This little table shows to what extent the later waves re-release and re-package items from the earlier waves.
2,3 - a visibly different, new version of the character. I'm not aware of any of these h, or s figures that were new shapes that hadn't appeared painted in previous waves. I think that these versions were partly done to reduce production costs as some figures were rejected during manufacturing due to imperfections in their paint. 10-Slug Box SetsThere look to have been two box sets of 10 slugs released: one containing a mixture of wave 1 and 2 slugs, and another containing a mixture from waves 1, 2 and 3, that have a small amount of overlap between them (Doc and Stinky). The Burpy figure is a little different, being the wave 3 version, with a more serious expression. Where it talks about them containing exclusive slugs, these six (Bludgeon, Stinky and Joules in the first set; and Doc, Chiller and Rocky in the second set) have extra markings on them as you see in the episode What Lies Beneath. 5-Slug TubeIn my 'travels', I've also seen a clear plastic tube with 5 well-known slugs from the show: Burpy, Joules, Doc, Banger and Buzzsaw Folders 1
