Star Fleet 1984 Annual

Post by keaden »

Hello all, it's been ages since I was on here but I wanted to let everyone here know that I am currently scanning my copy of the hard to find 1984 Star Fleet annual (unfortunately I can't seem to upload any of the pages I have finished scanning so far on here for your comments) - just my little way of trying to say thank you to everyone who kept the memory of this show going and managed to get the whole thing released on DVD (something I thought would never happen) thank you all very much indeed.K

That's a good idea. I started the ball rolling a few years back and managed to get the first 24 pages up:http://www.bigdaix.co.uk/sfgalleries1.htmIt would certainly be good to see the whole lot up though, in high quality.

Shane,Well I managed to scan the whole annual in Tiff format at about 300dpi so I am running them through Adobe CS, colouring, editing and joining double pages up.It might take another few weeks to get them to a quality that I'm happy with.I will upload a few tonight and post the links on here. Can anyone recommend a decent free image viewing site?

All I have uploaded a few of the tweaked scans to imageshack here are the linkshttp://img810.imageshack.us/i/0102u.jpg/http://img202.imageshack.us/i/77179198. ... 559.jpg/as you can probably see there are a few changes to be made but I'm hoping the pics will turn out pretty well

Those scans have come out really well.I have the annual filed away too. A friend bought me it from a collector's fair when I was still at school. If any pages won't come out right, I can give it a shot but I don't have much luck scanning large things. The narrative on the Dai-X photo isn't quite right is it? It says how the missiles on the left arm are deadly when fired repeatedly. It was my understanding that there were only two, large missiles on the arm. I only mention it because I'm thinking of revising the Dai-X's standard weapons in my game. The arm missiles are currently something of a "finisher" with slight homing and create a large, swirling explosion. The chest missiles can be fired repeatedly as I think is shown in the final episodes but only travel a short distance (which was my decision because I wanted a shotgun-like short-range weapon). If you want to upload your hard work without ads or whatever, you can always put them here: http://www.xbomber.co.uk/xarchive/It's a work-in-progress as my free-time is nowhere at the moment but I'm building up a nice collection of bits and pieces there.

Crash,Thanks, very nice collection indeed. My damn laptop crapped itself so I'm just now getting back online, so I also haven't been able to work on any more of the scanned pages (hopefully I'll be back up to speed by the weekend).I actually had 2 copies of the annual back in the day, one was bought from woolworths for me by my dad for an xmas present in 1984.I found it a few years back but it was in a decent if faded condition. I managed to get another from ebay from a guy in Australia. This is my first go at scanning anything, I thought it would be nice to try and preserve the artwork in the annual as I think it makes a great addition to the inserts with DVD release.Yes the narrative is a little off but it's forgivable as I love the pic (as I'm looking at it now I can see a few blemishes on the pic I will try to iron out as best I can) I can see there are laser cannons in the feet maybe you could work that into the game as well?I was actually thinking about compiling the scans into a cbr file and releasing it as a free download (on megaupload or mediafire or one of those free file upload sites) for those of you who aren't too familiar with .cbr/.cbz files have a look athttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.cbrI recommend CDisplay as a free simple viewer for these types of files.I will keep you all posted as I get this sortedK

Hell, did you have to format? Had to do that myself over Christmas. XP's getting old and vulnerable but the hardware's solid. That picture is great - you've done a great job scanning them and getting the colours vibrant. It all looks great.I did the same thing with archiving the Star Fleet screengrabs I took, only with 7-zip: http://www.xbomber.co.uk/gallery....enGrabsOtherwise I ended up with so many jpgs that my operating system began to seize up.I just thought I'd make sure that my take on the Dai-X weapons wasn't altogether wrong.I'll try and get some work done on X-Bomber the Game next week because I'll be between essays and assignments then. The laser cannons in the feet fire automatically if there's an enemy behind the Dai-X in the game. I might extend that principle to X-Bomber as well because it has a serious surplus of weapons options. At the moment you have to select its rear lasers to fire them.Dai-X's foot gun even gets used toward the end of the series.

Did what I said - X-Bomber's rear lasers fire automatically now. It works very well; very convenient.Basically, if an enemy enters a 128-pixel-wide band behind the ship, the rear guns open up.

Guys,I've been working on these off and on and have hit a little bit of a wall this last week (after my laptops shitfit I just ran out of steam a little) but I've uploaded a few more tweaked scans here are the links.http://img209.imageshack.us/f/3334redo2 ... 2d.jpg/I'm on page 35-36 of 60 so far so hopefully it won't be long till I'm finished.Incidentally does anyone have any good scans of the Terrahawks Annual (or was it annuals?) I wouldn't mind trying my hand at cleaning those up after I'm finished with the Star Fleet one.

Well done sir, thanks for your continued efforts. I'll transfer the lot across to the X-Archive for you in one go for safe-keeping once they're all up.I figured I'd just point out that quite a few new WIP screenshots of X-Bomber are up on its gallery. I'm putting all the new stuff into the root directory at http://www.xbomber.co.uk/iv/ for a bit before filing them into categories so that people can see the new stuff in a single place.I also managed to get the new version of that Gallery software running there without necessarily paying for it. It tries to check with its own website whether it's running on a registered server or not before it works, so I had to learn its secrets and 'null' it a bit first.
