"Star Fleet" has only been officially released on DVD, under its original Japanese title, X-Bomber, in Japan (Japanese language only, other than a DVD "extra" of a movie-length compliation of English-language episodes on the last disc). Unfortunately, this set will probably be quite difficult to get hold of outside of Japan now.

I don't think it is - it has special features for one thing - and a proper cover it seems. If you click on the image it shows other japanese show DVDs with the same packaging. Although it looks kinda professional, I think it might perhaps be something to do with the Ebay store that's selling them rather than a proper company. It's certainly interesting... anyone got any more info?

This is put out by a firm in the US that considers Star Fleet to be public domain over there - see comments in other threads for why that's probably not the case. They've also dropped in other items onto the DVD which is unusual, but I haven't seen it although they have been in touch with me. The US does have a public domain concept but having looked into it my view is that the US release of Star Fleet didn't qualify it as public domain. It's categorically not an official release, they just use their standard packaging design as they do this with a lot of titles they consider public domain in the US.

Definitely not the Japanese release, as Andy says. The Japanese release has different packaging, no subtitles, no "Brian May" interview and is a 6, not 4, disc set.

Quote (S7R4NGER @ 18 Oct. 2005,16:45)I am portuguese. When X-Bomber was broadcast here, the audio was japonese and there were subtitles. I don't care if it is spoken in english or not, as long as it has subtitles. I just want to watch it again. How?!?!?As has been previously mentioned in this thread, there has been no official X-Bomber release outside of Japan (and the English-language dubbed version "Star Fleet" is long out of print). To the best of my knowledge, no subtitled version, at least in English, exists. I don't know much about X-Bomber in other languages - is it possible that the series may have been released on VHS in Portugal a long time ago? It might be worth trying second-hand video shops or bargain stores; I've occasionally come across Star Fleet tapes in the UK that way. Its possible - though unlikely - that the anime "fan-subbing" community might have come across the series, although I would have thought someone from this forum would have discovered it if they had. Have you tried file-swapping sites? (its a very long shot, mind you!).
