UK Star Fleet DVD/Video Release

Post by AndyThomas »

Well, the facts are these - the rights to the English version are held by Enoki USA, who we're in touch with. Enoki know that we want the show over here, but not having a distribution arm, need someone to do distribute it for them. A couple of attempts have been made to date, but none have gone through. Enoki aren't always massively forthcoming about what the situation is, and part of me does wonder whether the release of the Japanese version into Region 2 may cause an issue - because of course, we're Region 2 for DVDs as well... Star Fleet isn't quite the same show as X-Bomber of course, but, there's an element of Star Fleet in the X-Bomber DVD release in the form of the Space Quest compilation. It's an unusual situation because although all the sound work, storyline etc for Star Fleet was British made, that version of X-Bomber then returned to Japan and then the States wholesale. So basically it's an American owned British show, which makes it a slightly different beast to the likes of Thunderbirds and Terrahawks in terms of getting a British release. Annoying, isn't it?!

Well if we want Star Fleet and they know we want Star Fleet and they want to send us it... then the chances are we'll get it in the end. Just needs some patience, some pestering and it'll all get sorted in the end.

As mentioned elsewhere in this section, I've made an enquiry to Pioneer USA ( who released the Japanese box set ) but no definite answer yet, only a promise that they'll pass it onto the people who do their release line-ups.

We might all consider dropping them a line individually. That'll give 'em something to think about.
