As I've mentioned briefly elsewhere, I'm doing a physical spring clean at the moment - and I came across an old Couch Potato feature in SFX magazine, of December 1997. Funny thing is, I remember how I got this issue - I'd long since stopped collecting SFX having gotten the first few issues. I was working part time in Game at the time, and this issue hadn't sold. If that was the case, the cover of the magazine got torn off and sent back. But one of the lads gave me what was left, probably because I'd muttered something about Star Fleet to him at some point. There were also some fuzzy screen grabs, but you can read the comments from this (rather large) image hopefully:http://www.sfxb.co.uk/sfgfx/SFXArticleI ... 97.jpgThis was probably one of those things that nudged me into doing the first pages of the site, that and the old newsgroup posts a couple of years before even that. There's also a Terrahawks one in amongst a general Anderson couch potato session in another issue but it doesn't really say a lot...

Another blast from the past here - some of it still works, even the little Java animation I was once so proud of! Here you can see the beginnings of what became SFXB - be interesting to hear people's comments...?http://www.sfxb.co.uk/Frames/starfleet.html

The Java animation's neat. Did A A always feature Star Fleet, or was this the first version that did?Shane.

Hm.  Late '98...  Well, the Alcove had Netmech on it and I started playing Starcraft in early '98 and that was probably around the time that the Archipelago came into being, so it was probably Archipelago first and then Star Fleet was added to it.Ah, yes.  This version I've put up is a bit of a mish-mash but going by this page dated August 1998:http://www.sfxb.co.uk/Frames/welcome.htmlI hadn't added Star Fleet at that point - it was comics and Starcraft that were new.  So then there was the shift away from frames, with the majority of the original content going across, Star Fleet getting expanded upon and then finally the split with the poor old Archipelago getting left behind!  If you're interested I might even have the old Alcove lurking around somewhere; the Grotto, which was the first set of pages I did, remains embedded in the Archipelago - I even came across a page that linked to it the other day, and remarkably some of its links still work despite being five years old!

On a related note - I seem to be the only website that doesn't go in for light text on a dark background. Having a non-white background would mess some of my images up, but I was thinking of doing something in the blank background of the columns and perhaps outside the main area (those viewing in 1024 will know what I mean). Any comments?
