The Skull: an oversized cargo schooner?

Post by Bradster »

My interest in the old 3D models I'd made for Star Fleet was recently rekindled and I've been trying to gather up some reference images again. Earlier today, I was trying specifically to find detailed images of The Skull or other sailing ships like it. I don't have much advanced knowledge of nautical language and terms, but I do believe I've identified The Skull as an oversized cargo schooner. Here is the cargo schooner image I found that fits The Skull's profile almost perfectly:(from http://www.yarmcentral.ednet.ns.ca/sail ... er.htm)The Skull appears to keep roughly the same proportions, but it is significantly larger than a normal schooner. The typical schooner is only large enough to support a few men.(from http://ina.tamu.edu/LCwaterwitch.htm)(from http://www.blueheronco.com/shipwrsw.htm)The more famous galleon, by comparison, has a much larger multi-deck body and wide square rigging, unlike the gaff rigging of a schooner.(from http://www.treasurelore.com/florida/flo ... .htm)(from http://blindkat.hegewisch.net/pirates/p ... l)Thoughts? Has anyone else here ever tried to identify the proper class of ship that describes The Skull?

Y'know I never thought about it Brad. I don't think the design was based on a certain sailing ship. I'm glad you're back Bradster. It's been waaay too long.

Awesome! I don't mind if you use a free model. I do it all the time.
