Oh, god. I had an absolutely horrible experience with Dreamhost about two years ago and, after asking around, I learned that I wasn't in the minority. Apparently the quality of the service has been in a steady decline over the past several years as they've ramped-up these "insane unlimited storage and bandwidth" deals that they can't actually deliver on. I had moved my site to Dreamhost using one of those deals. It ended up being a huge mistake. The performance and uptime were just abysmal, so bad that I ended up moving to a different service after just a few months despite having a bunch of time remaining in my one-year contract. The shared database was pitifully slow, the server's bizarre CGI-based PHP setup was fraught with problems, the machines routinely ran short of memory and stopped serving requests... and then they went and changed their user agreement to nix some of the greater benefits such as using the service for off-site backups. Their support people were unfortunately neutered and couldn't (as in not allowed to, it seemed) help me with me issues, even when I knew and explained exactly what was going on. I wouldn't go back to DH even if someone paid me to.Sorry about the rant. Sore subject, I s'pose.Good luck with the site... hopefully you're overall having an better experience with DH than I did.
