SFXB in new video files shocker!

As you may have gathered from my post earlier this week with the Brian May clip, I've now got my hands on a clever box of tricks which converts VHS into DV and feeds it into a firewire port. The upshot of that technobabble is that I can finally start fleshing out some of the existing entries in Other 80s Stuff with video files of their intros.Because the space on SFXB is finite, I've gone for WMV format.  This keeps the size down but does make for slightly blotchier playback in fast moving scenes, I'm afraid. The other knock on effect is that I'll shorly be able to create some new pages using screengrabs where I haven't previously been able to.  So you can expect to see some new content over the next few weeks, featuring blokes like these. So I'll now be splitting my time between writing those new pages and working on the 3D side of things, as time allows...  Oh, and somewhere down the line, if people would be interested, I'll probably sling together a CD of higher quality intro videos suitable for nostalgia fests.  It's just not really doable to put even short VCD quality MPEGs up on the site.  I haven't gotten around to playing with DivX yet, but hopefully most machines will play WMV files without falling over, so...

Having looked at how much space I'm currently using on SFXB, something's going to have to give if I'm going to increase the size of the "Other 80s Stuff" section in terms of video clips. So, first and last warning folks - the episode 4 video file is going to come down pretty soon, because it's chewing up almost 40MB of space which I can be using to do other things. I'll probably also consolidate some of the other Star Fleet video files which are currently available and create some new WMV files to replace the old AVIs which have been around for some time now. So, if you want to save any of them onto your local hard drive, now would be the time to do it!

Ah, the irony! It seems that quite a few of you have been downloading the episode, perhaps as a result of my post yesterday, and as a result the site's bandwidth use has gone through the roof! So as of right now, the episode's gone, which should hopefully return things to normal...
