Re: Japanese Pilot

That was the saddest part of the DVDs for me. Learning that a second series might have been but for some incredible ill fortune.

Re: Japanese Pilot

Ah, I see what you're getting at now. It was Michael Sloan that adapted the script primarily but I'd imagine that Louis Elman would probably know how they went about it. I don't know how open he is to questions but he's active on his Facebook page if you're feeling brave :D I suspect, that the adapt...

Re: ATTENTION PAUL BLISS FANS

That was a fantastic listen!

Kudos to Ros Connors as well for bringing a level of knowledge to the piece that isn't normally afforded by interviewers at local radio level.

Re: Japanese Pilot

Sounds to me like someone trying to big up their own kudos because they've seen the Japanese version, which most people won't have.

Other than that, I don't see it. The English dub (and whole audio track actually) is far superior IMO.

Re: Japanese Pilot

From memory I don't think a great deal was actually changed from the Japanese to the British version of the show. Narratively at least. The necessary changes, from the dub to the soundtrack I've always really liked. Paul Bliss's soundtrack I still feel to this day is incredible and was one of the ma...

Re: Japanese Pilot

Certainly makes you appreciate Paul Bliss's work that little bit more.

To my mind Star Fleet is an oddity in that it took the original Japanese work, overlaid an English dub, and an English soundtrack, and actually improved it. I can't really think of many other examples where that's happened!

Re: The Children of the Sun...

The mini docs were definitely on the Beeb airings, I remember them quite vividly. One of the first things I checked out when I got the DVDs, just to see if they were on there.

Fantastic box set. Still haven't made my way through the season 2 blu ray set though!

Re: A New Recruit

Think I was 5 when I first saw the show on its original run. Luckily I caught the very first episode and that was it. Hooked. Our eldest is 7 later this month. I've tried him with the show a couple of times but he's not taken to it. Same with Ulysses 31 as well. Only shows from my childhood that I'v...

If You Could Save 3 Things from the 80s...

Beyond Star Fleet, which I agree, should be a given; Macross (or Robotech if we're only talking western), Star Trek TNG, and Blade Runner.

Caliban voiced by Al Mathews

Great thread - I've always wondered who did which voices (beyond their own) - mystery solved. At long, long last!
